As we sat down at the fly tying bench for this month, October. It’s still warm but you can feel a bit of a cool down first thing in the morning. We’ll begin to work our way further into the backcountry but we’re still working the outside bar systems adjacent to mangrove country looking for redfish, snook and juvenile tarpon. We’ll definitely keep an eye out for groups of redfish as they’re schooling up now in preparation for their spawn. For the most part, we’re throwing baitfish flies to imitate the scaled sardines and threadfin herring that are most prevalent. Depending on just how far we’re working up into brackish water will determine fly color.
