Typically, We’d spend most of this month on the beach like last month. This year, we’re going to keep working the east side below Punta Gorda. Redfish and snook are prowling many shorelines and with the water temperature climbing we’re anticipating the juvenile tarpon that arrive every late summer to show up early. For the most part, we’ll work between Mangrove Point and Pirate Harbor. Although this area doesn’t get the flow from the gulf like flats further west, when the rainy season begins the flush of a bit fresher water out of all the creek systems turns on the bite. Fishing early is important as it’s not a good idea to be out during the heat and thunderstorms of early afternoon. In addition, the fish and particularly the tarpon show and feed just after dawn.
