Around the backcountry and flats of the harbor and surrounding bays and sounds the snook, redfish, and spotted sea trout fishing has been decent. There are quite a few redfish around and we’ve seen some of the best numbers on the flats and adjacent shorelines adjacent to the intracoastal waterway not far from the Gulf passes. They seem to be gravitating to the cooler more oxygenated flushing in from the Gulf. Snook are scattered throughout the area and look like they’re beginning to make their way towards the rivers and creek systems towards the top of the harbor. We have been getting some more rain this past week and with the slightly cooler early morning temperatures the snook are also pushing back a couple islands deep into the backcountry. They had previously been most abundant on the outside shorelines facing the open harbor. Spotted sea trout are still fishing best early and can be found any where there is grass in two to four feet.
