Spring is here and our water temperatures have made it to the high seventies. Our most important prey species, the scaled sardine or pilchard, has moved in and most of our gamefish are taking advantage after the slim pickings of winter. On any given day, spotted sea trout, redfish, snook, jacks, and and maybe a cobia are a possibility. The tarpon migration out of the Everglades and Keys has begun and they’ve made their way to our estuary system. It has been windy but that’s pretty typical for April. On the beaches, reports of snook staging for their summer spawn have been increasing. This is a great place to get out with your fly rod with no boat needed.
