August from the bench

As we sat down at the fly tying bench for this month, August.  It’s the height of summer and we’re working the outside bar systems as well as mangrove country for redfish, snook and juvenile tarpon. For the most part, we’re throwing baitfish flies to imitate the scaled sardines and threadfin herring that are most prevalent. Depending on just how far we’re working up into brackish water will determine fly color.
